Mayoral Message-Philippine Independence Day

Penrith Council is pleased to acknowledge the 122nd anniversary of Philippine Independence Day. On June 12, 1898 the Filipino flag was unfurled and the national anthem sung for the first time. This important anniversary celebrates the end of 300 years of Spanish rule in the Philippines.

In previous years, Penrith Council has hosted a flag raising ceremony to mark this event. However, this year COVID-19 restrictions have changed the way we can celebrate.
It is great to know that a small COVIDsafe event is being held in St Marys and I am thrilled to have this opportunity to recognise the anniversary and thank the Philippine Language and Cultural Association of Australia (PLCAA) for its ongoing contribution to our City.

We are fortunate in Penrith to be home to a large Filipino-Australian community and Council is pleased to have a strong relationship with the PLCAA. We feel privileged to have such an enthusiastic group working to share their heritage and culture with our community.
