Message from Greg Davis

Given the history of your celebrations in the past, I have no doubt that this anniversary will be a successful day with lots of colour and pageantry in honour of Philippine customs.

It has been a pleasure to be involved with all the PLCAA community over the past 15+ years. I thank Dr Leones for reminding me of the many events I have had the privilege to be part of during that time. Events such as Pasko Na Naman, the Mayoral musical, the talent on display at karaoke events, listening to the wonderful Filipino Seniors Choir, Typhoon Haiyan toy sale, the READ programs and many other events, including the opportunities to meet with your Consulars in their visits to our city.

I congratulate all the PLCAA members for the work they have done in keeping your culture alive and introducing it to those Australian and other communities who had not previously had the opportunity to witness these events. I fondly remember not only watching the singing and dancing but also being part of it. (I am sure it was politeness, but I am glad that I didn’t clear the hall with my Elvis singing).

The other thing that stands out in my mind is the effort you put into the younger generation of your community and helping them remember their traditional ways and home ties. All the younger people I have met have the most amazing good manners and politeness that can only be attributed to their loving parents and elder’s contributions to family.

As you are no doubt aware, I have made the decision not to run for Council at the next election after 26 years of, what I hope, was good service to the people of Penrith. I thank you all for the support you have shown me in the past and I have no doubt that Council will continue the tradition of support that has been shown to not just your community, but all other residents who have come from overseas to make Australia their home.

Once again congratulations on your 75th celebrations and the many more that will come as a result of the passion and drive of the PLCAA.

Greg Davies

Emeritus Mayor Penrith City
