The idea of holding a trivia night was something of a
novelty for the PLCAA, but as usual, everyone worked together to pull off an
amazing night with something for everyone. The night began with trivia which
was interspersed with the amazing PLCAA Cultural Dancers. After the trivia,
people were able to let out some of their frustration by dancing up a storm to
the music of Lionel Laserna’s Sound Check.
Due to time constraints, the answers to the trivia were
not given, so they have been included in this issue. If you did not attend, why
not have a go at the questions yourself?
There was much fun and laughter had by all. Some tables
took it much more seriously than others. Some even decided that eating their
dinner was much more important, so left out a round or two.
As the adjudicator, it was interesting to notice the
types of questions the majority of the group got right. It seems that questions
about religion or music and entertainment were answered very well. Perhaps
that’s a reflection on Filipino culture and what is important?
A highlight was the opportunity at the end of each round
to win bonus points. Asking a Filipino to dance for bonus points is really not
that difficult, so there was much competition.
The results of the night were given and the winners very
happy with the prizes, generously donated by sponsors.

It was a great night with lots of laughs. The MCs were
very friendly. Loved the dancing. Everyone was keen to help others (me) learn
the steps. The friendliness of everyone was humbling. We were made to feel like
we fitted in even though we had never been to a Filipino event before. I look
forward to next year’s events and taking up dance classes.

Well done to the organisers of this event. Not only was
it a great night, it raised much needed funds for the PLCAA and its projects,
including the Penrith Community Filipino School. A portion of the proceeds will
also go to the Ticket to Life Scouts in Manila, a troop that helps street
children develop skills, knowledge and self-respect.
