PLCAA President's Message-120th Philippine Independence Day

Distinguished Guests, fellow Community Leaders, PLCAA team, friends, ladies and gentlemen, good morning.  Welcome to PLCAA - 120th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence.

We are gathered here today at St.Marys Memorial Hall, filled with love, pride and joy to celebrate one of the most significant dates in Philippine history – the 120th Anniversary of Philippine Independence. “Pagbabagong Ipinaglaban, Alay Sa Masaganang  Kinabukasan”. Change We Fought For, An Offering to an Abundant Future.

I would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to the generous support of Penrith City Council, our unwavering affiliation with the Philippine Consulate General Sydney and active participations of fellow Community Leaders and Sponsors.

In the words of Philippine President, Rodrigo Duterte.  “More than a century ago, thousands have laid down their lives so that we may live with dignity and rights befitting a free nation.  The journey to freedom was a long and arduous one - which our countrymen paid for, with blood, sweat and the ultimate act of selfless sacrifice.” But this journey is far from over and it continues with us, Filipinos living in the Philippines and abroad:
  •   Our journey to full equality and justice –  free from any form of discrimination based     on age, disability, race, sex, and religion.
  •  Our journey to sustainable peace and brotherhood – free from state of lawlessness, violent crimes and threat of terrorist attacks.
  •   Our journey to one national government serving the three main island groups – Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao – with patriotism and valour.
In PLCAA, we will endeavour to take an active role in the Filipino-Australian community to increase awareness and understanding of the Filipino heritage, culture and values.

This remarkable quote by Nobel Peace Prize recipient Kofi Annan, will motivate everyone to achieve a successful future.  Knowledge is power.  Information is liberating.  Education is the premises of progress, in every nation, in every society, in every family.

I will end this speech with an inspirational quote by Philippine National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal, “ Ang kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan.” The Internationally- Acclaimed Loboc Children’s Choir of Bohol, Philippines are with us today. Our country’s hope for an abundant future.

Together, may we find progress in our journeys as Filipinos.  God Bless us.
Maligayang Araw ng Kalayaan!   Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!    Maraming Salamat Po!

Aida Basto
President - PLCAA
